UNEVEN SKIN TONE
OUR SKIN IS NEVER PERFECT, AND IT IS PERFECTLY NORMAL TO HAVE AN UNEVEN SKIN TONE.
Uneven skin tone is extremely common, and refers to:
Sun damage
Age spots
Hyperpigmentation (darker patches of skin)
Hypopigmentation (lighter patches of skin)
Acne scarring
Blemishes
Redness
WHY DOES IT HAPPEN?
Hyperpigmentation occurs when we have an overproduction of melanin in one area – melanin is the pigment in our skin, hair and eyes that produces colour. The melanin rises to the surface of the skin, causing irregular coloured patches.
WHAT CAUSES IT?
Acne
Excessive UV exposure
Trauma
Hormonal-related conditions such as melasma
Medications
Genetics
TREATMENTS FOR UNEVEN SKIN TONE
Skin peels are effective at encouraging deep exfoliation to help brighten the skin and even out skin tone. These treatments are also particularly effective at managing acne-prone skin, redness and lifting sun damage.
A course of microneedling treatment can be very useful at fading acne scars and blemishes, and increasing the skin’s firmness and elasticity as it stimulates cell renewal.
Dermaplaning will not necessarily improve hyperpigmentation but it will definitely induce a glow to the skin – combine it with a skin peel in The Glow Facial for amazing results.
