SCARRING

SKIN SCARRING IS A COMPLETELY NORMAL OUTCOME OF TISSUE REPAIR.

The term “scarring” refers to a range of repaired skin structures following some kind of trauma or injury, including:

  • Fine lines

  • Hypertrophic (raised)

  • Atrophic (indented or pitted)

  • Keloid (enlarged tissue that can continue to grow)

Scars generally do not cause us any physical problems but can sometimes appear aesthetically unpleasant and therefore affect levels of anxiety, depression and daily activities.

TREATMENTS FOR SCARRING

Microneedling is a very effective treatment for fine lines and atrophic scars, especially acne scarring because it stimulates the skin’s wound healing response. A course of skin peels will also help to brighten colour of the affected area, as well as certain skincare ingredients such as retinol and repetitive use of AHAs.
